BLASKIC CASE:


THE WITNESSES SUMMONED BY THE TRIAL CHAMBER

WILL BEGIN TO TESTIFY ON WEDNESDAY 9 JUNE


GENERAL MORILLON AND JEAN-PIERRE THEBAULT

TO BE HEARD IN CLOSED SESSION


Trial Chamber I, consisting of Judge Claude Jorda (Presiding), Judge Mohamed Shahabuddeen and Judge Almiro Rodrigues, will begin this week to hear the witnesses it summoned in April (see Press Release 393). The public hearings will begin on Wednesday 9 June at 10 a.m. 1999


The Chamber ordered the appearance of those witnesses believed to have a specific knowledge of the facts alleged within the indictment, "in order to ascertain the truth in respect of the crimes the accused has been charged with".


Pursuant to various scheduling orders issued over the past days, the order of appearances of the witnesses reads as follows:


Between Wednesday 9 June and Friday 11 June: Colonel Asim Koricic, Commander of the 7th Muslim Brigade of the Army of Bosnia and Herzegovina at the time of some of the acts mentioned in the indictment; Colonel Amir Kubura, Commander of the 7th Muslim Brigade of the Army of Bosnia and Herzegovina at the time of some of the acts mentioned in the indictment;
Colonel Serif Patkovic, Commander of the 7th Muslim Brigade of the Army of Bosnia and Herzegovina at the time of some of the acts mentioned in the indictment; General Enver Hadzihasanovic, Commander of the 3rd Corps of the Army of Bosnia and Herzegovina at the relevant time.

On Wednesday 16 June: Mr. Jean-Pierre Thébault, Chief of the European Community Monitoring Mission (ECMM) at the time of the acts mentioned in the indictment. At the request of the witness, his testimony will be heard in closed session.

On Thursday 17 June: Colonel Robert Stewart, Commander of the British Battalion of the United Nations Protection Force (UNPROFOR) during part of the time covered by the indictment. The time of the testimony by Colonel Stewart will be fixed at a later stage

On Monday 21 June, at 2 p.m. General Philippe Morillon, Commander of UNPROFOR at the time of the acts mentioned in the indictment. At the request of the witness, his testimony will be heard in closed session.

It should be noted that the Chamber is currently considering a request by General Milivoje Petkovic, Commander of the Main Staff of the Croatian Defence Council (HVO) not to come to the Tribunal, but to testify through a video-link instead.
