ICTY discusses cross examinations practices with law students from Zagreb University

Today the ICTY’s Outreach Programme organized a Skype lecture on the topic Cross examination of witnesses, working with vulnerable witnesses, in cooperation with the Law Faculty of Zagreb University.

The lecture was delivered by Ann Sutherland, ICTY Senior Trial Attorney in the Office of the Prosecutor (OTP), to a group of 15 law students and focused on cross examination and working with vulnerable witnesses.

Ms Sutherland explained the main reasons for conducting cross examinations and possible different approaches. She also provided numerous examples of cross examination in ICTY courtrooms and practice.

Talking about working with vulnerable witnesses, Ms Sutherland spoke about different categories of vulnerable witnesses and the specific procedures in place to address each of them.

Maja Munivrana Vajda, lecturer at the Law Faculty of Zagreb University invited ICTY to organise similar lectures in the future.
