I, Jean-Claude Antonetti, Judge of the International Tribunal for the Prosecution of Persons Responsible for Serious Violations of International Humanitarian Law Committed in the Territory of the Former Yugoslavia since 1991 ("Tribunal");

NOTING the Statute of the Tribunal ("Statute");

NOTING the Rules of Procedure and Evidence ("Rules");

CONSIDERING that in the Request for the Extension of Words dated 20 February 2006 the Defence Counsel for the Accused Valentin Coric requested to be granted leave to exceed the number of words in the pre-trial brief filed on 14 February 2005;

CONSIDERING that a practice direction provides that a pre-trial brief must not exceed 15,000 words;

CONSIDERING that the practice direction provides for exceptions due to exceptional circumstances;

CONSIDERING that pursuant to Rule 19 of the Rules the President of the Tribunal may issue Practice Directions, consistent with the Statute and the Rules;

CONSIDERING that a Practice Direction cannot be issued if inconsistent with the Statute and the Rules and must not in whatever way interfere with the rights of parties to present their case;

CONSIDERING that, in the present case, there is reason to authorise that the number of words be exceeded;

FOR THE FOREGOING REASONS,

GRANT the Defence Counsel for the Accused Valentin Coric leave to exceed the word limit fixed by the practice direction.
