AND CHAMBERS

Jim Landale,
Spokesman for Registry and Chambers made the following statement:



First,
I would like to remind you that President Jorda will be in London tomorrow for
meetings with the British Foreign Minister, Robin Cook, and with the Lord Chancellor,
Lord Irvine. They will be discussing ongoing British support for the Tribunal
and plans for the Tribunal’s future.


On
Monday 5 June 2000, the Vice-President of the Republika Srpska, Mr. Mirko Sarovic
will be visiting the Tribunal and Detention Unit. He is due to meet with representatives
of the Office of the Prosecutor, the Chambers and Registry.



The
following day, Tuesday 6 June 2000, there will be a visit by the Minister of
Justice of the Germany, Ms. Herta Däubler-Gmelin She is expected to meet
with the President, senior members of the OTP and with the Registrar.


Then
on Wednesday 7 June 2000, the Minister of Justice of Croatia, Mr. Stjepan Ivanisevic,
will come to visit the Tribunal. The Minister will most probably meet with the
President, the Registrar and the Prosecutor and also intends to visit the Detention
Unit.


We
will let you know about any planned press opportunities in the coming days.



Finally
two quick reminders:


First,
the Celebici appeal hearings will begin next Monday 5 June 2000 in Courtroom
I and will last for one week.


Also
just a reminder that the Foca trial is now adjourned until Tuesday 13 June 2000.





 


Paul
Risley, Spokesman for the Office of the Prosecutor (OTP) made the following
statement:





The
Prosecutor is in Atlanta today, where she will be speaking this afternoon, on
the topic of war crimes, at a conference in honor of CNN’s twentieth anniversary.
The Secretary-General of the United Nations, Kofi Annan will be in attendance
at the same conference. The Prosecutor will probably meet with him, both on
a formal and informal basis, later this evening or tomorrow morning.



On
Thursday 1 june 2000, the Prosecutor will travel to New York for meetings at
the UN Secretariat. On Friday 2 june 2000, she will report to the UN Security
Council on matters pertaining to the Rwanda and Yugoslav Tribunals.



On
the matter of the provisional release of Milan Simic, the Prosecutor has no
comment and has no intention to appeal. She has made her concerns regarding
provisional release known to the Judges and will remain vigilant towards any
violations of the release agreement by the accused.
