Stanišić & Simatović Start Of Trial Postponed
The Trial Chamber today postponed the pre-trial conference and the Prosecution’s opening statements in Jovica Stanišić and Franko Simatović case to Monday 17 March 2008.
The trial had been initially scheduled to commence Monday 10 March 2008.
According to the Trial Chamber decision issued on Friday 7 March, the Prosecution had asked for its opening statement to be postponed. The judges granted the request and ordered the pre-trial conference be postponed too.
According to the new scheduling order, the pre-trial conference will be followed by opening statements of the Prosecution in a session that will commence at 09.00 in Courtroom III on Monday 17 March.
Stanišić and Simatović, high level officials of Serbian Secret Service, are accused of having directed, organized, equipped, trained, armed and financed secret units of the Serbian State Security which murdered, persecuted and deported Croats, Bosnian Muslims, Bosnian Croats and other non-Serb civilians from Bosnia and Herzegovina and Croatia between 1991 and 1995.
