Magdalena Spalińska, Spokesperson for Registry and Chambers, made the following statement:

Good afternoon,
   
The Tribunal will be holding a celebration marking the 20th anniversary of its establishment next Monday, 27 May in the afternoon in the Tribunal’s lobby. The event will be held in the presence of His Majesty King Willem-Alexander of the Netherlands and the United Nations Under-Secretary-General for Legal Affairs, Patricia O'Brien, and will bring together senior ICTY officials, both past and present. It will be followed by a reception at the City Hall Atrium where President Judge Theodor Meron will open an exhibition commemorating the anniversary.

The event at the Tribunal will be carried live through the Tribunal’s website and broadcasters will be able to obtain the feed from break-out boxes outside the Tribunal’s building. All media are invited to cover the opening of the exhibition in the Atrium, and those interested should email the press office by tomorrow.

Turning to the activities in the courtrooms:

Two Trial Chamber judgements will be rendered next week. The first one will be rendered on Wednesday, 29 May, at 10:00 in Courtroom I in the Prlić and others case, involving six high-level leaders of the Bosnian Croat wartime entity Herceg-Bosna. On Thursday, 30 May, the Trial Chamber will render its judgement in the case of Jovica Stanišić and Franko Simatović, two high level officials of the Serbian Secret Service accused of crimes committed against non-Serbs in Bosnia and Herzegovina and Croatia between 1991 and 1995. The judgement will be rendered at 16:00 in Courtroom I.

Journalists will be advised in due course of the accreditation procedure in place for both judgements.

Hearings in the trials of Ratko Mladić, Goran Hadžić and Radovan Karadžić continue this week and next as scheduled:

In the case of Ratko Mladić, the Trial Chamber is currently hearing the testimony of Marko Trivić, a Colonel in the Army of Republika Srpska who is testifying about events in Srebrenica in July 1995.

In the case of Radovan Karadžić, the Chamber has just finished hearing the  testimony of Defence witness Zorica Subotić, a weapons expert. She is the 133rd witness to be called by the Defence.

Proceedings in the case of Goran Hadžić adjourned this morning and will resume on Tuesday, 28 May at 9:00 in Courtroom II.

Office of the Prosecutor:

No OTP representatives were present at the briefing.

Questions:

A journalist asked whether all the former Prosecutors would be attending the ICTY’s 20th anniversary next Monday. Spalińska replied that it was not expected that all previous Prosecutors would attend, and that details of speakers are set out in the programme which is available on the ICTY website.
