THE REGISTRAR,

CONSIDERING the Statute of the Tribunal as adopted by the Security Council under Resolution 827 (1993), and in particular Article 21 thereof;

CONSIDERING the Rules of Procedure and Evidence as adopted by the Tribunal on 11 February 1994, as subsequently amended, and in particular Rules 44 and 45 thereof;

CONSIDERING the Directive on Assignment of Defence Counsel (hereinafter "the Directive"), as adopted by the Tribunal on 28 July 1994, as subsequently amended, and in particular, Articles 6, 8, 10 and 11(B);

CONSIDERING that on 14 April 2003, Mr. Naser Oric (hereinafter “the accused”) requested that Ms. Vasvija Vidovic, attorney at law from Sarajevo, be assigned as his defence counsel;

CONSIDERING that on 18 June 2003, Ms. Vidovic requested the Registry that Mr. John Jones, attorney at law from London, be assigned as the accused’s co-counsel;

CONSIDERING that the Registrar assigned Ms. Vidovic on 24 April 2003 as counsel to the accused for a period of 120 days and that the period has expired;

CONSIDERING that the Registrar assigned Mr. John Jones on 1 July 2003 as co-counsel to the accused for a period of 45 days and that the period has expired;

CONSIDERING that for the purpose of establishing whether the accused satisfies the requisite conditions for assignment of counsel, the Registrar may inquire into his means, request the gathering of any information or the production of any documents to verify the request;

CONSIDERING that the declaration of means of the accused dated 16 April 2003 has not yet been certified by the appropriate authority;

CONSIDERING that the right of the accused to counsel should not be affected while the Registrar examines the declaration of means laid down in Article 7 and the information obtained pursuant to Article 10 of the Directive;

DECIDES to extend the assignment of Ms. Vasvija Vidovic as counsel and the assignment of Mr. John Jones as co-counsel to the accused as of 27 August 2003 for a period of 90 days, pending verification of the accused’s declaration of means.
