Nerma Jelačić, Spokesperson for Registry and Chambers, made the following statement:

Good afternoon,

President Robinson will be in New York on Friday where he will address the UN General Assembly on the occasion of the presentation of the Tribunal’s seventeenth annual report. A Press Release, which will include his speech, will be published immediately after his speech on Friday afternoon. The annual report is already available on the Tribunal’s website.

Onto trial related matters:

In the case of Prlić and others, the Chamber today ordered that the proceedings resume following the President’s denial on Monday of Jadranko Prlić’s motion and Slobodan Praljak’s Joinder to disqualify Judge Prandler. The President found that the Defence teams have failed to substantiate any of their claims and to establish any actual bias or the appearance of bias on the part of Judge Prandler. Having found the Motion to be without any merit, the President deemed it unnecessary to appoint a panel of three Judges to consider it further.

In the trial of Radovan Karadžić, the Trial Chamber has decided to continue with the four-day trial schedule until further order and to extend hearings to 45 minutes whenever possible, as of November 2010. While the Chamber does not consider that a five-day sitting schedule would violate the rights of the Accused, it is also of the opinion that maintaining the current four-day sitting schedule with extended sittings may be equally conducive to ensuring an expeditious trial. The Chamber, in the same decision, encouraged the Accused to take the opportunity of the non-sitting fifth day to exercise and maintain his good health.

Onto the appeals proceedings in the Popović and others case:

No appeal was filed by either party in respect of Ljubomir Borovčanin whose case is now closed. His sentence of 17 years’ imprisonment for crimes committed against Bosnian Muslims in Srebrenica in July 1995 is therefore final and he is awaiting transfer to serve his sentence.

As to the upcoming court schedule:

The Review Hearing in the case of Veselin Šljivančanin will be held on Tuesday, 12 October 2010 from 14:30 to 18:40 in Courtroom III.

Hearings in the case of Radovan Karadžić, Mićo Stanišić and Stojan Župljanin, Zdravko Tolimir, Momčilo Perišić as well as Jovica Stanišić and Franko Simatović continue this week and next as scheduled.

Frederick Swinnen, Special Adviser of the Prosecutor, made the following statement:

Prosecutor Serge Brammertz will address the European Affairs Committee of the Dutch Parliament ("Tweede Kamer") this afternoon. He has been asked to speak about Serbia's cooperation with the Office of the Prosecutor. The meeting will take place at 2 pm.
