Conditions of service

Appointments at ICTY are for one year, subject to extensions, and are limited to the Tribunal only. The conditions of service are governed by the United Nations Staff Rules and Regulations.

The working languages of the Tribunal are English and French.

Appointments for professional positions are normally for one year, with the possibility of renewal. In accordance with United Nations Staff Rules and Regulations selected candidates for professional positions must undergo a medical exam and must be medically cleared for service by the United Nations Medical Service in New York before they can take up their duties.

Those offered an appointment at the professional level for one year, will be considered as internationally recruited. When they serve outside their home country, they are provided with certain expatriate entitlements such as travel expenses upon initial appointment, removal of household effects, home leave, rental subsidy, education grant and repatriation grant.
