Tribunal welcomes representatives of Bosnian-Herzegovinian Associations in the Netherlands

The Tribunal's Outreach Programme yesterday welcomed a group of representatives of Bosnian-Herzegovinian associations in the Netherlands who met with Tribunal officials and attended the trial of Radovan Karadžić.

The visit, comprising refugees from Bosnia and Herzegovina who left their country as a result of the 1992-1995 war, forms part of the Outreach Programme's efforts to create a better understanding of the work of the Tribunal among those directly affected by crimes that have taken place in the former Yugoslavia.

Commenting on the visit, Fahrudin Alić, President of the Association of Survivors of the genocide of Srebrenica, 'Srebrenica 1995', said: "As survivors of the Srebrenica genocide, we are very much interested in learning more about the details of the Karadžić  case and the other cases regarding Srebrenica."

The visit was organised in cooperation with IKV-Pax Christi, an organisation that works to promote peace in conflict areas and which is implementing a long-running project focussed on Srebrenica.

As the ICTY moves towards the completion of its mandate, the Outreach Programme is intensifying its efforts to provide the communities of the former Yugoslavia, including victims, with increased access to the Tribunal’s work and to promote a greater understanding of its achievements.

The Outreach Programme benefits from the continuous support of the European Commission.
