A Second Gymnasium encore

Sarajevo, 15 May 2013

The very high level of interest generated among students at Sarajevo’s Second Gymnasium by a presentation on the work of the Tribunal given to them in February this year, prompted them to ask Outreach representative Almir Alić to return to the school and speak to them again.

This time Almir spoke to his young audience about the Tribunal’s experiences with specific relation to the prosecution of crimes of wartime sexual violence. The students took part in a moot court exercise, to try a fictional case dealing with rape in the context of an armed conflict.

The interactive nature of the presentation was popular with the students. One 18-year-old said: “We were all engaged into discussion and it made me start thinking seriously about choosing law as my future career. Congratulations on a job well done.”

Other students said the presentation had “encouraged me to think about the issues I have never thought about before,” and that it had “changed the way I think and had a truly positive effect on me.”
