His Excellency Mr. Khodakov Ambassador of the Russian Federation to the Netherlands
met with the President of the International Criminal Tribunal for the former Yugoslavia.
Subsequent to his request, Judge Claude Jorda, President of the International Criminal Tribunal for the former Yugoslavia (ICTY), received on Wednesday 24 May 2000, His Excellency Alexandr Khodakov, Ambassador of the Russian Federation to The Netherlands.
Together they discussed the letter of 17 May 2000, which President Jorda sent to Mr. Khodakov regarding the recent visit to Moscow of Mr. Dragoljub Ojdanic, Minister of Defence of the Federal Republic of Yugoslavia, who has been indicted by the ICTY and against whom a warrant of arrest has been issued.
Mr. Khodakov reiterated the resolve of the Government of the Russian Federation to co-operate with the ICTY in accordance with all relevant Security Council Resolutions and pursuant to Article 29 of the Statute of the Tribunal in seeking out and trying the persons accused of serious violations of international humanitarian law as well as in arresting and detaining the said individuals.
The Ambassador added that the recent visit of the accused Ojdanic to Moscow resulted from an internal dysfunction within various services of the Federation and that measures had been taken to prevent a similar situation from reoccurring.
President Jorda expressed his satisfaction at the explanations provided by Ambassador Khodakov and stated that he considered the matter closed.
