Appeals Chamber dismisses Miroslav Bralo's appeal affirms sentence of 20 years' imprisonment

The Appeals Chamber today affirmed the Trial Chamber's sentence of 20 years' imprisonment for Miroslav Bralo, former member of the anti-terrorist platoon of the HVO Military Police Battalion known as the "Jokers".

On 19 July 2005, Bralo pleaded guilty to all eight counts on the amended indictment for crimes carried out in the Lašva Valley region of central Bosnia and Herzegovina. During the hearing, the Trial Chamber accepted the guilty plea and on 7 December 2005 sentenced him to 20 years' imprisonment.

In its decision, the Appeals Chamber dismissed all grounds of appeal filed by Miroslav Bralo on 30 March 2006. In its unanimous ruling, the Appeals Chamber ".arrived at the conclusion that a reduction in the sentence would not be justified."
