Association of Defense Counsel Practising Before the ICTY Elects a New Executive Committee
MR. STEPHANE BOURGON ELECTED AS PRESIDENT
On Saturday 25 October 2003, the Association of Defence Counsels practising before the International Criminal Tribunal for the Former Yugoslavia (ADC-ICTY) held its second Annual General Assembly meeting at the Kurhaus Hotel, in Scheveningen, The Netherlands.
On this occasion, members of the ADC-ICTY elected the new executive committee composed of:
President, Stéphane Bourgon (Canada)
Vice-President, Branko Lukic (Bosnia and Herzegovina)
Vice-President, Stefan Kirsch (Germany)
Secretary, Zeljko Par (Croatia)
Treasurer, Mira Tapuskovic (Serbia and Montenegro)
Former military legal adviser in the Canadian Armed Forces, Stéphane Bourgon initially joined the Office of the Prosecutor of the International Tribunal in 1998 before being appointed as Chef de Cabinet for the President of the Tribunal, H.E. Judge Claude Jorda in 1999. Since January 2001 he works as a Defence Counsel before the International Tribunal, representing General Enver Hadzihasanovic as Co-Counsel.
The ADC-ICTY is an independent professional association organized under the laws of the Netherlands and recognized as the Defence Counsel organisation serving the Tribunal pursuant to Rule 44 of the Rules of Procedure and Evidence of the International Tribunal.
The objectives of the ADC-ICTY are:
To support the function and efficiency of Defence Counsel practising before the International Tribunal; To represent the views of its membership before the organs of the International Tribunal; To offer advice to the International Tribunal in relation to procedural change; To oversee the performance of Defence Counsel in accordance with the Statute, Rules and other applicable Directives of the International Tribunal.
