ICTY President Agius pledges full cooperation into Zdravko Tolimir’s death inquiry

The ICTY President, Carmel Agius welcomes the decision of MICT President, Theodor Meron to appoint Judge Vagn Joensen, former President of the International Criminal Tribunal for Rwanda, and a Judge of the Mechanism, to conduct an inquiry following the passing of Zdravko Tolimir on 8 February 2016 in the UN Detention Unit (UNDU) in Scheveningen.

Mr. Tolimir was found guilty by an ICTY Trial Chamber of genocide, conspiracy to commit genocide, crimes against humanity and violations of the laws or customs of war. On 8 April 2015, the conviction was upheld by the ICTY Appeals Chamber.

President Agius expresses the full support of the ICTY for the inquiry, and pledges complete cooperation of all ICTY staff, including those serving in the UNDU, to Judge Joensen during his investigation.
