The Hague, 13 September 2001
Statement by the Amici Curiae Lawyers designated to the Milosevic case.
Please find attached a statement by the amici curiae designated last week to the Milosevic case (see Press Release No. 617 of 6 September 2001) provided to the Registry of the International Criminal Tribunal for the former Yugoslavia.
The amici curiae have met and discussed issues relating to their function as amici curiae in the Milosevic case. This function will be best performed if the amici curiae do not express individual views on the Milosevic case to the media. Opinions of the amici curiae concerning the trial will only be submitted to the Court and the accused without any further explanation to the media.
For the purpose of explaining the function of an amicus curiae in general the amici curiae may advise the media if circumstances so require. Additionally, as individuals, the amici curiae may supply background information about themselves and their professional experiences upon inquiry by the media.
