Judgement to be handed down by Trial Chamber I in the Jelisic Case.
Please be informed that, pursuant to Article 23 of the Statute of the Tribunal and Rule 98 ter of the Rules of Procedure and Evidence of the Tribunal, a judgement in the trial of Goran Jelisic will be handed down by Trial Chamber I on 19 October 1999 at 14.30 pm in Courtroom I. This hearing takes place after the close of the case for the Prosecution.
On 29 October 1998, Jelisic pleaded guilty to 31 out of 32 counts against him contained in a second amended indictment of 19 October 1998. These covered 15 counts of crimes against humanity (namely, 12 counts of murder and three counts of inhumane acts) and 16 counts of violations of the laws or customs of war (namely, 12 counts of murder, three counts of cruel treatment and one count of plunder of public or private property) in the Brcko area of northern Bosnia and Herzegovina. Jelisic pleaded not guilty to one count of genocide (namely, killing members of the group).
Please also be reminded that the sentencing hearing for the additional counts that Ducko Tadic was found guilty
by the Appeals Chamber on 15 July 1999, will take place this Friday, 15 October, at 10.00 am in Courtroom I.
