Good afternoon,

President Meron is in Washington this week as part of a delegation organised by the Mayor of The Hague, which includes the President of the International Criminal Court and the President of the International Court of Justice. The purpose of this trip is to inform the public about the role of international courts and tribunals in The Hague. The President will participate with other members of the delegation in a panel at the American Society of International Law conference and at the Brookings Institute.  He will also meet with the members of the Obama administration and with Justices of the Supreme Court.

Turning to the courtroom schedule:

A Status Conference in the case of Ratko Mladić will be held tomorrow morning at 9:00 in Courtroom III.

A house keeping session is currently taking place in the trial of Jovica Stanišić and Franko Simatović.

Proceedings in the trial of Radovan Karadžić continue this week as scheduled, with the Trial Chamber currently hearing the testimony of Dusan Janc who is an investigator who prepared reports on the Srebrenica exhumations.

Finally, I would like to inform you that the Tribunal’s Outreach Programme will launch tomorrow a round of presentations at high schools in Croatia. Multi-media presentations on the work and achievements of the Tribunal will be held in a total of 15 high schools during this school year. The presentations are part of a region-wide project to support the process of dealing with the past in the region by encouraging young people to take an active interest in the Tribunal’s work as well as wider issues of justice, transitional justice mechanisms and post-conflict social recovery. The project is already being implemented in Bosnia and Herzegovina and Kosovo. The Outreach Programme hopes to soon receive necessary government approvals to be able to carry out the same project in Serbia.
