The Tribunal observes International Women’s Day

Tribunal | | The Hague |

On International Women’s Day, the Tribunal pays tribute to the courage and determination of women who have played an extraordinary role in strengthening the international justice system.

To mark this day, the Tribunal produced a short video that recognises the impact made by the hundreds of women who have testified at the ICTY. The video features excerpts from their testimonies given at court, followed by their thoughts on their experiences as witnesses. The video is presented by ICTY Deputy Registrar Kate Mackintosh, who pays tribute, on behalf of the ICTY, to the invaluable contribution these women have made to justice. The video is featured on the ICTY YouTube channel, ICTYtv.

In addition, under this year’s theme - “Planet 50-50 by 2030: Step it Up for Gender Equality” - the ICTY's ‘Focal Point for Women’, which promotes gender equality within the Tribunal, organised a series of activities. These events highlight the role played by women throughout the Tribunal’s history and include an exhibition of archival material showcasing their vital contribution to its work and achievements. The exhibition will be on display in the Tribunal’s lobby.
