Joint statement by Justice Richard Goldstone, Prosecutor of the International
Tribunal, and His Excellency Kresimir Zubak, President of the
Federation of Bosnia and Herzegovina.
On Saturday, 16 September 1995, a meeting was held at The Hague between the Prosecutor of the International Criminal Tribunal for the former Yugoslavia, Justice Richard Goldstone and his senior officials and the President of the Federation of Bosnia and Herzegovina HE Kresimir Zubak accompanied by ministerial officials of the Government of the Republic/Federation of Bosnia and Herzegovina.
In the atmosphere of cooperation and mutual understanding Republic/ Federation of Bosnia and Herzegovina officials have given assurances of full cooperation with the Tribunal in terms of its Statute. Several important issues were discussed.
With regard to recent actions of the Tribunal joint and separate actions have been agreed to further cooperation, including the passage of legislation in the Constitutional Assembly of the Federation of Bosnia Herzegovina, in order to enable the authorities in Bosnia Herzegovina promptly to comply with the Statute of the Tribunal. In the mean time arrangements will be made for the Prosecutor to have access, for the purpose of being interviewed, to any person indicted by the Tribunal subject to fully safeguarding the legal rights of any such person.
Certain ambiguous wording in documents issued by the Prosecutor were discussed and it was agreed that in the interest of the Tribunal and all parties concerned that such wording would be avoided in documents issued in the future.
The Prosecutor gave the assurance that his Office is seriously investigating all allegations of serious violations of international humanitarian law including those involving victims of Croatian nationality.
The discussion also included some other relevant issues upon which agreement has been reached during the course of which the Prosecutor expressed his appreciation for the information already provided to his Office and for other forms of cooperation provided so far.
