Yesterday, 15 November 2005, Mlađo Radic was transferred to France to serve his sentence of 20 years' imprisonment for one count of crimes against humanity and three counts of violations of the laws or customs of war.
On 2 November 2001, Radic was sentenced by the Trial Chamber, alongside Miroslav Kvočka, Milojica Kos, Zoran Zigic and Dragoljub Prcac for crimes committed at the Omarska, Trnopolje and Keraterm camps in the Prijedor municipality of Bosnia and Herzegovina.
Radic was a professional policeman attached to the Omarska police station. The Trial Chamber found that he took up his duties as shift leader of guards in the Omarska camp on approximately 28 May 1992 and remained there until the end of August 1992. As a guard shift leader, Radic was found to have been in a position of substantial authority over guards on his shift. He used his
power selectively to prevent crimes, ignoring the vast majority of crimes committed on his shift. The Trial Chamber noted that guards on his shift were particularly brutal and that Radic personally committed sexual violence against female detainees. The Trial Chamber found that Radic played a substantial role in the functioning of the Omarska camp and that he was a co-perpetrator of
the joint criminal enterprise. He was found guilty under Article 7(1) of the Tribunal's Statute as a co-perpetrator of the following crimes committed as part of a joint criminal enterprise: persecutions under Article 5 of the Statute, and murder and torture under Article 3 of the Statute. The Trial Chamber sentenced Radic to a single sentence of 20 years' imprisonment.
The Appeals Chamber dismissed all Radic's grounds of appeal and affirmed the sentence of 20 years' imprisonment as imposed by the Trial Chamber.
Seventeen other accused have been transferred and are serving their sentences: Dusko Sikirica and Mitar Vasiljevic in Austria; Dusko Tadic and Dragoljub Kunarac in Germany; Drago Josipovic, Vladimir Šantic and Darko Mrđja in Spain; Zoran Vukovic, Radomir Kovač and Dragan Obrenovic in Norway; Goran Jelisic in Italy; Biljana Plavsic in Sweden; Hazim Delic and Esad Landzo in Finland;
Ranko Cesic in Denmark; Predrag Banovic in France; and Radislav Krstic in the United Kingdom.
