Statement by the Prosecutor on the Croatian Government delegation visit to the Tribunal.

On 8 September 2000 in The Hague, the Prosecutor and senior members of her staff met Deputy Prime Minister Granic, Minister of Justice Ivanisevic, and senior representatives of Croatia to refine the mechanisms whereby Croatia would respond to requests for assistance made by the OTP to the Croatian authorities.

Two main areas of co-operation were identified: access to witnesses; and the production of documentary evidence.

The discussions, which took place over two days in the Prosecutor’s office, usefully summarised certain difficulties being faced by the Croatian Government in responding to outstanding orders and requests.

The Prosecutor is satisfied that the talks achieved progress in the areas under discussion, and that certain agreed procedures should now allow matters to be moved forward more quickly in order to meet the demands of on-going criminal proceedings and investigations
