The third Trial Chamber is composed and cases are assigned.

Following the swearing in on Monday 16 November 1998 of three new Judges, the Appeals Chamber and the three Trial Chambers of the International Criminal Tribunal for the former (ICTY) are composed as follows:

The Appeals Chamber consists of:

Judge Gabrielle Kirk McDonald (United States of America), Presiding,

Judge Mohamed Shahabuddeen (Guyana),

Judge Lal Chand Vohrah (Malaysia),

Judge Tieya Wang (China),

Judge Rafael Nieto-Navia (Colombia).

Trial Chamber I consists of:

Judge Claude Jorda (France), Presiding,

Judge Fouad Abdel-Monem Riad (Egypt),

Judge Almiro Simôes Rodrigues (Portugal).

Trial Chamber II consists of:

Judge Antonio Cassese (Italy), Presiding,

Judge Florence Ndepele Mwachande Mumba (Zambia),

Judge David Anthony Hunt (Australia).

Trial Chamber III consists of:

Judge Richard George May (United Kingdom), Presiding,

Judge Mohamed Bennouna (Morocco),

Judge Patrick Lipton Robinson (Jamaica).

THE ASSIGNMENT OF CASES:

In consultation with the Judges, the President of the ICTY, Judge Gabrielle Kirk McDonald, has assigned the "Kordic and Cerkez" case and the "Radic and others" case to the new third Trial Chamber.

The assignment of all the pending cases reads as follows:

The Appeals proceedings in the Tadic case will be held before an Appeals Chamber consisting of Judge Shahabuddeen (Presiding), Judge Cassese, Judge Wang, Judge Nieto-Navia and Judge Mumba.

The Blaskic trial will continue to be heard by Trial Chamber I, consisting of Judge Jorda (Presiding), Judge Riad and Judge Shahabuddeen.

The Simic and Others case ("Bosanski Samac") and the Jelisic case will be heard by Trial Chamber I, consisting of Judge Jorda (Presiding), Judge Riad and Judge Rodrigues.

The Aleksovski case will continue to be handled by Trial Chamber I-bis, consisting of Judge Rodrigues (Presiding), Judge Vohrah and Judge Nieto-Navia.

The Furundzija case is before Trial Chamber II, consisting of Judge Mumba (Presiding), Judge Cassese and Judge May.

The Kupreskic and Others case will be heard by Trial Chamber II, consisting of Judge Cassese (Presiding), Judge May and Judge Mumba.

The Kunarac case will be heard by Trial Chamber II, consisting of Judge Mumba (Presiding), Judge Cassese and Judge Hunt.

The Krnojelac case ("Foca") will be heard by Trial Chamber II, consisting of Judge Cassese (Presiding), Judge Mumba and Judge Hunt.

The Kordic & Cerkez case will be heard Trial Chamber III, consisting of Judge May (Presiding), Judge Bennouna and Judge Robinson.

The Radic & Others case (Omarska/Keraterm) will be heard before Trial Chamber III, consisting of Judge May (Presiding), Judge Bennouna and Judge Robinson.
