Media Advisory: “ICTY Global Legacy Conference”

The Tribunal is convening a two-day conference, “The Global Legacy of the ICTY”, in The Hague on 15 and 16 November 2011. The Conference has been made possible through the generosity of the Governments of the Netherlands, Luxembourg, Switzerland and the Republic of Korea, as well as the Municipality of The Hague and the Open Society Justice Initiative.

The purpose of the Conference is to bring together leading academics, international judges and practitioners, state representatives, and members of civil society, to explore the impact of the Tribunal’s work on international humanitarian law and international criminal procedure, as well as the potential of its jurisprudence to shape the future of global justice and the advancement of human rights.

Each Conference session will take the form of a dynamic panel discussion led by a moderator, who will make a 20 minute presentation in order to encourage active discussion between the panelists. There will also be an opportunity for the audience to put questions to the panelists either during or after the session.

The Conference moderators and panelists are among the most eminent scholars and practitioners in the field of international human rights, humanitarian and criminal law, including some of the Tribunal’s own esteemed Judges and former Judges, United Nations officials and government representatives.     The full list of speakers is included in the Conference Programme which can be found on the Tribunal’s website alongside the Conference Concept Paper.

Journalists are invited to cover this noteworthy event. All working sessions of the Conference will be open to the press.

Journalists who wish to attend the Conference should use the accreditation form. The accreditation process will be open until 11 November. Space is limited and will be allotted on a first-come, first-served basis.
