A Donation of 306 Computers departs for Bosnia and Herzegovina

REGISTRY:
A DONATION OF 306 COMPUTERS DEPARTS FOR BOSNIA AND HERZEGOVINA Press Release
(Exclusively for the use of the media. Not an official document)

The Hague, 26 April 2006

OK/MOW/1072e

The Registry of the International Criminal Tribunal for the former Yugoslavia (ICTY) today dispatched a shipment containing 306 used computers which will be donated to schools, youth centers and non-governmental organisations in Bosnia and Herzegovina.

The computer equipment is donated through the AidNet Foundation, a humanitarian organisation based in Sarajevo, which will distribute the computers to organisations in both entities of Bosnia and Herzegovina - the Republika Srpska and the Federation of Bosnia and Herzegovina.

The equipment will be transported from The Hague to Sarajevo by Voerman International moving company, free of charge. Robert-Jan Voerman, the company manager of Voerman International stated that this is "part of the company's policy to assist in serving communities in need."

On the occasion of officially dispatching the shipment, Hans Holthuis, Registrar of the ICTY, said that he was "particularly satisfied that equipment replaced by the Tribunal can benefit young people from all ethnic groups in Bosnia Herzegovina, where the majority of the crimes under this Tribunal's jurisdiction were committed". The Registrar also thanked Voerman International for
their generous assistance.

The Ambassador of Bosnia and Herzegovina, Fuad Sabeta, expressed his gratitude for the Tribunal's efforts to assist the local communities in Bosnia and Herzegovina in this way.

This shipment is part of an ongoing ICTY project. For the past year, the Tribunal has endeavored to supply its replaced office equipment to those in the former Yugoslavia who may benefit from it. In Bosnia and Herzegovina, AidNet has assisted this effort by distributing computer equipment to remote areas to benefit young people and women. Importantly, AidNet has also installed
software on the computers at its own expense and arranged technical and other support to the end beneficiaries.

Representatives of the media will be informed when the shipment arrives in Bosnia and Herzegovina.
