Prosecutor Serge Brammertz Meets Serbian Delegation

Prosecutor Serge Brammertz met in The Hague today with Serbia’s War Crimes Prosecutor, Vladimir Vukčević, and Chairman of the National Council for Cooperation, Minister Rasim Ljajić. The discussions focused on issues related to the cooperation of Serbia with the Tribunal and plans for the Prosecutor's upcoming visit to Serbia.

Prosecutor Brammertz stressed the crucial importance of cooperation of states for the work of the Office of the Prosecutor. This cooperation includes access to and protection of witnesses, access to documents and archives, as well as the arrest of fugitives. Serge Brammertz also stressed that his Office continues to rely on the crucial assistance of Serbia and other States in the former Yugoslavia as well as the support of the international community in the efforts to finally bring Ratko Mladić, Radovan Karadžić, Goran Hadžić and Stojan Župljanin to justice.

Prosecutor Vukčević and Minister Ljajić informed Prosecutor Brammertz about the current situation in Serbia, especially as it relates to the cooperation with the International Criminal Tribunal for the former Yugoslavia and reiterated Serbia’s commitment to achieving full cooperation with the ICTY. It was agreed that Prosecutor Brammertz would travel to Belgrade at the earliest opportunity.
