High school students moved by witness testimony

03 May 2012, Koprivnica, Croatia

Outreach representatives today travelled to the small northern Croatian town of Koprivnica and delivered a presentation on the work of the Tribunal to more than 30 students from the local high school.

Several female students appeared very moved by the statement of Ljubica Došen, whose husband was killed in the Ovčara massacre, and who testified as a witness during the trial of Slavko Dokmanović.

When one student asked about convictions for the events surrounding the massacre, the Outreach representatives talked about the sentences handed down against former Yugoslav National Army officers Mile Mrkšić and Veselin Šljivančanin, and highlighted that the recent arrest of Goran Hadžić means that the Tribunal will soon put on trial another senior figure alleged to have been involved.

The school principal, Mr Vjekoslav Robotić, said the event had been “very useful” for the students, and that he wished such presentations could have been available many years ago.
