 REGISTRY ANDCHAMBERS

Jim Landale, Spokesman for Registry and Chambers, made the following statement:

 Good afternoon,

On behalf of the Presidentof the Tribunal, Judge Theodor Meron, I would like to remind you that this Friday,
25 July 2003, will mark the eighth anniversary of the indictment by the ICTY,
for the first time, of Radovan Karadzic and Ratko Mladic. Both have been indicted
for, among other things, genocide and crimes against humanity for their alleged
central roles in the mass murder and persecution of non-Serbs in Bosnia and
Herzegovina in the first half of the 1990’s.

The fact that both men arestill at large is a disgrace. To be absolutely clear, the Tribunal will not
consider its work done until Karadzic and Mladic are brought to justice. President
Meron calls again for those who are in a position to do so, to apprehend these
individuals and ensure their transfer to The Hague for a fair trial according
to international law, with the panoply of due process protections.
